Summer is over and that means the chills are coming! As such, preparations need to be done to be ready for the fall, like: stocking up on candy for Halloween, snatching pumpkin spiced coffee drinks while they make a comeback, and investing in an overcoat for the season’s upcoming holidays!

Although there is a wide differential on what kind of coat you could invest in, such as an “overcoat, topcoat, greatcoat,” etc., don’t get all the “coat-categories” confused…

There is only one type of coat our Kipper Clothiers members swear by when it comes to utility, warmth, and lightweight feel, but let us give you a snapshot at what the top three “coats-to-know” are, first!:

  1. The Overcoat -- One of the earliest coats; it is made with the intention to be on top of suits and other articles of clothing! It is usually made of heavy-weighed material, often times as much as thirty ounces per yard. This coat keeps you warm and is very lavish, but isn’t as used as much as its modern day counterpart, the topcoat.

  2. The Topcoat -- A derivative of the overcoat; it's made with significantly lighter material, often weighing as much as eighteen ounces per yard. Despite how light it is, it is commonly made of the warmest and most luxurious materials such as cashmere! Topcoats are a balance of overcoat and bodycoat functionality, as it is often worn either on top of clothes and as a stand alone garment!

  3. The Bodycoat -- The bodycoat cuts very closely to the body which often times doesn’t require layers of clothing underneath. Militaries often use this template to construct their coats for easy maneuvering and climate protection.

You can probably guess that Kipper’s favorite coat is the topcoat which, all things considered, is the only coat to actually bother investing in! Both the overcoat and bodycoat are great, but the topcoat covers both the same functionalities as the other two types of coats without sacrificing too much of its design for warmth!

At Kipper Clothiers, we make topcoats from the finest cashmere material, so our coats are lightweight, warm, elegant, and luxurious. It will never loose its shape, and will be the type of iconic style investment that you can pass on, thereby perpetuating your family’s sense of style!

Dip into the heritage of owning a topcoat, and check out what we mean when we say that topcoats are not only functional, but also one of the best stylistic choices of the fall/winter season:
